Traditional Braces

Braces are a time-tested treatment option for straightening teeth. A series of metal brackets are attached to the front surfaces of the teeth. They hold an archwire in place, which continuously exerts pressure that guides the teeth and jaw into proper alignment. Rubber bands can be attached to the brackets to increase pressure and make treatment more effective in complex cases.

Most patients wear their braces for 18–24 months. Our orthodontics office in Round Rock, TX, features an in-house lab to create customized retainers for braces patients to maintain their results after treatment has been completed.

Damon Clear Braces

Damon® braces are an increasingly popular alternative to traditional braces because they use clear ceramic brackets and a thinner wire, which are less noticeable when smiling. 

The Damon system uses a "memory wire" and no rubber ties, so the wire can move freely while the teeth shift. The brackets have an opening and closing mechanism, so appointments to change the wire tend to be much quicker.

Because they exert less force than traditional braces, Damon braces can be more comfortable, but they usually aren't appropriate for addressing complex misalignment. Treatment typically takes 6-12 months.

Clear Aligners

Our practice in Greater Austin offers the Invisalign system and clear aligners made at our in-house lab. Both treatment options involve a custom-made series of thin plastic aligner trays that are worn for about two weeks at a time before switching to the next set. They exert gentle pressure that gradually brings the teeth into alignment.

Invisalign aligners and our office-made aligners should be worn for 20–22 hours a day to see the best results. They can be easily removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, so you won't see any disruption to your regular routine.

Dr. Jovan uses the 3Shape intraoral scanner to take digital impressions of your teeth and guide the creation of your aligners with better accuracy. Digital scanning also means you won't have to sit around with messy dental putty in your mouth while you wait for your impressions to set.

Dr. Jovan works with patients as young as six years old. That may seem young for orthodontic treatment, but if you notice that your child's teeth are coming in crooked, early intervention can make all the difference.
