What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are an orthodontic alternative to traditional metal braces. Instead of metal wires and brackets, clear aligner systems like Invisalign® use a series of smooth, clear, removable aligner trays to guide your teeth into proper alignment. Our Round Rock dental office can craft these aligners right in our lab or provide Invisalign® if you prefer. However, both our in-office aligners and Invisalign offer comfortable treatment and outstanding results.
Why Choose Clear Aligners Instead of Braces?
Patients sometimes prefer clear aligner systems like Invisalign over traditional metal braces because they are:
Removable
Because aligner trays are removable, there are no dietary restrictions during your treatment. With traditional braces, you have to be mindful not to eat certain foods as you undergo orthodontic treatment.
Discreet
Clear aligners are made of smooth, clear, BPA-free plastic, so they are virtually unnoticeable and fit comfortably over your teeth. Braces require brackets and wires that some patients find uncomfortable and unattractive.
It's important to keep in mind that not everyone is a candidate for clear aligners. Dr. Hau will help you explore your options during a consultation.
Will Insurance Cover Clear Aligners?
/
This depends on your plan. We work with most insurance providers and will work to verify your coverage, maximize your benefits, and reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Our Round Rock orthodontic office offers free consultations, and we also accept financing through OrthoBanc and CareCredit® to help those without insurance or to finance costs not covered by dental insurance.
Wondering if You Are a Candidate for Clear Aligner Treatment?
You may be a good candidate for clear aligner treatment if:
- You have mild to moderate orthodontic issues.
- You are dedicated to wearing the aligners for at least 22 hours a day.
- You are responsible enough to maintain your aligners and not lose them.
- Your teeth and mouth are healthy enough and free from decay, gum disease, or other dental issues that may hinder treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign and Clear Aligners
How long does treatment take?
This varies from patient to patient depending on how severe their misalignment is and if they follow treatment requirements. Mild misalignment can often be corrected in just 12 months, while more severe issues may take 18-24 months. On average, treatment takes about 18 months.
I'm okay with crooked teeth. Do I really need orthodontic treatment?
Misaligned teeth can make it difficult to properly brush and floss, leading to dental issues such as tooth decay and gum disease. A misaligned bite can also cause pain in the TMJs. Clear aligner treatment can straighten your teeth to prevent these issues and alleviate pain.
Can my child use clear aligners?
There is no set age for clear aligner treatment. However, your child must be responsible enough to wear the trays for the required time and not lose them. If your child cannot properly maintain the trays or wear them for the required time, braces may be a better option for them.
How long do I have to wear a retainer after treatment?
To maintain your results, our orthodontists suggest you wear a retainer at night for the rest of your life. This will prevent your teeth from shifting back into their misaligned positions.
